Tech City Meets Siltech World, the Company Behind Electric Bikes In Nigeria

Sales of electric bikes are skyrocketing and steadily transitioning from being widely used in developed nations to being the most sought after in developing countries such as Nigeria.

Bike lovers in Nigeria are warming up to electric bikes, you may have already seen one zipping through your neighbourhood. Because of their rechargeable batteries, E-bikes can travel up to 25 to 45 km/h, much faster than most people would cycle, getting you to your destination faster and in better shape.

TechCity visited Siltech World, a leading renewable energy company in Nigeria and arguably the first in Africa to manufacture and distribute electric bikes.

In a 5 minutes interview, the CEO of Siltech World, Tolu Williams narrates the journey, plans for the company, as well as highlighting the impeccable features of the electric bikes and how much they cost.

When asked why he chose to pursue this lane in technology, Tolu Williams said “I’ve always been a climate change enthusiast. This started as a hobby. I travelled to an international trade fair in Asia and I saw this electric bike and I fell in love. When I bought it didn’t take me far enough and the suspension wasn’t good enough. I realised that most electric vehicles are made for Europe, Asia and America, so we focused on the suspension, battery and the motors.”

Siltech World boasts of over 1000 electric vehicles sold in Nigeria. These vehicles have unique custom features coupled with a lasting battery span ranging a day to 3 days depending on the usage. In a nutshell, they are affordable, energy-efficient, and emission-free transportation, also vital in ensuring physical and health benefits.
