Left behind: These iPhone devices will not get the iOS 17 update

The coming iOS 17 update will not be available for certain iPhone models and upgrading ones iPhone is the only way to get the coming iOS upgrade.

Apple is preparing to launch the iOS 17 update to iPhones globally. This OS update will become available sometime in June for beta testing. Beta testers will have access to this feature by mid-year to help Apple make necessary adjustments to the system.

Regular users would have to wait for the stable update that will launch in September after the June WWDC event. Once available, users around the world will be able to install this OS update on their iPhones, but not all because Apple is dropping support for certain devices.

Devices that will not be getting the iOS 17 update are the iPhone X and the iPhone 8. However, other devices in the iPhone X series will get this update because they use the A12 Bionic chip.

According to some reports, the update will not support iPhones using the A11 Bionic chip like the iPhone 8, 8 plus and iPhone X. Already, the iPhone 7 series didn’t get the iOS 16 update as Apple phased them out completely. Upgrading to the iPhone 11 and up is the only way to get the coming iOS upgrade.

Some features of the iOS 17 update include the integration of AR/VR headset controls. This will prepare the Apple community for the company’s coming AR headset. There’s also app permissions for sideloading applications from other sources other than the App Store. This feature is said to be exclusive to European iPhone users.

Lastly, the iOS 17 update will also improve the Apple CarPlay user experience and software interface. There may not be many improvements to the iOS system with Apple’s coming upgrade, but they will make a difference to whom they are targeted at.
