Update: The revealed EFCC handler graduated from Covenant University ’06 and more!

Although we (Nigerians) had guessed who the EFCC handler could be, we were wrong! In this post, I reference the list created by my friends at lists.ng. We were that desperate to know! (On the flip side, we didn’t really care who the handler was because he was giving us life with his savage replies to seeming dumb/rude and in-between comments)

Now, we are sure the person is a ‘he’ – read on.

This particular one had football fans by the balls.

Then this time when he was “trying to help” someone get into yahoo yahoo

In short, he was very good. Although, some swore he was being unprofessional but if the goal of your Twitter account is to connect with the people, then he did just that. As a result, he grew the EFCC following by a considerable amount of followers (some argue 200k).

—Digging deeper—

Although we were eager to know who he was, we were not looking forward to his ‘dismissal’ (as you’ll find out this might not necessarily be a bad thing)

As two ‘attentive’ followers reminded us, he could as well have been on a contract.

Now, there are so many angles to this story.

  1. A lesson on NOT micromanaging your subjects
  2. The mixed reactions from Nigerians
  3. The possible future for him

Perhaps, we can touch on all of them briefly.

  1. A lesson on NOT micro-managing your subjects: In a Government agency like the EFCC, there tends to be a lot of bureaucracy leading up to the creation of ‘as-is’ processes within the company. I can bet there were in-house arguments as to how the now former handler managed the account. I would also say there might have been laid down guidelines for posting on Twitter with an accompanying content calendar (TBH, although I like the structure and consistency a content calendar creates, I prefer to go with spontaneity). Spontaneity is something the EFCC handler seemed to have demonstrated while he was there. He appreciates the lee-way and other Twitter users (see immediate tweet below) acknowledge the EFCC for giving him such. Perhaps, other companies will learn to hire people who can do the job and TRUST them to do it well.

2. The mixed reactions from Nigerians: With the prevailing state of things and economic situation in the country, we as Nigerians still find a way to make a light of happenings thereby causing many to laugh while dissing the tension. This tweet had me rolling.

Some are saying he was fired/laid-off (politely sacked, LOL), others are saying his contract has expired but not many are considering the probability of him resigning or being offered a ‘bigger assignment’.

Update*: According to @famousblogng on Instagram, he was a Corper and his NYSC wrapped up yesterday. Hence, he decided to move on from his former EFCC job.

2. His full name is Olufemi Olukayode Adeyemi aka FShaw. Just in case you were wondering.

3. He left to pursue his music career as a budding rapper

4. His Twitter following is reported to have increased from 2,000 to about 12,000 after the news announcement.

However, if he was a Corper who worked on social media, how did he know so much about the EFCC runs (in such short time)? Well, someone says he was a full-time staff for some years who resigned to do better things. Wait, did he resign to go and serve? Dis thing no dey add up – I guess we’ll never know

Update**: He graduated from Covenant University in 2006 where he studied Computer Science. So, tendencies are he did his NYSC 10 years ago. You know what, he did his NYSC 10 years ago, he said it.

If he was sacked, here is someone’s suggestion as to the ‘why’:

Be it as it may, he has lost (or left) the current EFCC Twitter handler job:

Amidst all of this, we had the FRSC (@FRSCNigeria) trying to get in on the action. But Nigerians are saying NO! LMAO.

3. The possible future for him: Given the FRSC’s recent familiarisation with the handler and the account, people are suspecting he might be moving there. But I doubt.

Another concerned user says ‘his talent’ cannot go to waste and would like to link him up with an Oil and gas firm, Chevron

—In Conclusion—

Dear EFCC, in whatever you do with the account, don’t hire a ‘Lai Mohammed’ you owe it to the previous handler to keep the account popping (#jokes)

Whatever it is, we wish him all the best going forward.

When asked why he left, he said “it was time”. Dr Joe Abah said “greener pastures“…can you connect the dots?
