Apple to exit China and take iPad manufacturing process to India, but…

Reports making the rounds claim that there are plans in place to move the Apple iPad manufacturing process to India.

New reports claim that there are plans in place to move the Apple iPad manufacturing process outside China. The plan favors India as the next plant for the production of iPads for a start. If all goes according to plan, this will be Apple’s second product line to be made on Indian soil.

Already, some units of the iPhone 14 series in circulation are being manufactured in India. This is so because Apple is trying to reduce its dependency on China in its production process. So far, the plan to move the Apple iPad manufacturing process to India has not been smooth.

While Apple is already in talks with Indian officials to move iPad production to their country, the iPhone manufacturer will need to cross certain hurdles. One of such hurdles is manufacturing expertise for the iPads they plan to produce in India.

India does not seem to have the expertise necessary to pull through on the production of Apple iPad models. This lack of technical know-how could deter Apple from moving the iPad manufacturing process to India. Until either party proffers a solution to this skill gap, the India move may remain undetermined.

Asides the lack of technical know-how, Apple still has to deal with other challenges that stand in the way of its production move to India. The move would be gradual as it would rely on China’s production power for a while. Till the hurdles standing in the way of Apple’s production move to India are out of the way the company will still need to rely on China.
