Apple iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max

3 weeks after launch, Apple iPhone 14 Series struggles for the spotlight

The Apple iPhone 14 Series have launched, but they do not impress certain users planning on upgrading from their current devices.

Exactly three weeks after the iPhone 14 was launched, the smartphone has struggled to stay in the news as an innovative piece of tech. All four devices in the iPhone 14 series came with new features that make them stand out from the past generation of iPhones. Still, Apple fans are not as hype as they usually are.

There is in fact more hype around the iOS16 than the brand new iPhone. Perhaps for obvious reasons.

Yet, does this presuppose that the iPhone 14 Series failed to innovate? Oh, absolutely not. Apart from getting bad press about a camera issue causing phones to vibrate when third party photo apps are being used which the company has promised to fix next week, the iPhone 14 series has managed some good reviews still.

The Pro models on this series are the first time in a long time that Apple did well to try something different. The iPhone 14 has also managed to get some fame from being “repairable” with a new architecture inside.

The 14 Pro and Pro Max do away with the notch to a creative extent. In place of the notch, Apple introduced a pill which is sort of a notch, but not connected to the top bezels and has an active function. There is still a small matter of the notch pill affecting selfies if one is constantly touching it for playlists, calls, GPS, etc.

Getting rid of the age-old notch may come in handy, but taking away the SIM tray is a move that most fans haven’t fully come to terms with. The SIM tray is no longer available on the US versions of the Apple iPhone 14 Series. While some Apple fans expected this move to only affect US users, that is not the case.

The reason Apple is switching to eSIMs on its new series is that most carriers in the US have provisions for that. In other countries, the move to eSIMs is rather slow as most carriers have not yet made such ready for their users. In Nigeria, for instance, there are only two carriers with eSIM capabilities.

MTN and 9mobile have rolled out and we are still expecting the rollout of eSIMs on other carriers in Nigeria. So getting the US version of the Apple iPhone 14 Series here in Nigeria will only benefit MTN and 9mobile users. For those using other carriers, they’ll need to get the European version of the iPhone 14 Series or switch to carriers with eSIM availability.
