Starlink now fully available in Nigeria. Other ISPs react

Since the announcement of Starlink in Nigeria, other ISPs have been receiving some heat from unsatisfied customers.

Nigeria is now the first African country to have access to Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service. Following the licensing and operation of Starlink by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the country has achieved 100% broadband coverage, its Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami says.

SpaceX announced on their Twitter handle and updated the Starlink map to show that the ISP is now available in Nigeria, making it possible for more people to experience fast, reliable and low-latency internet. This is great news for Nigeria, because it provides more internet options for citizens and helps to bridge the digital divide.

Starlink’s satellite internet service is designed to provide coverage to even the most remote areas, making it a game changer for Nigeria’s internet landscape. The service offers download speeds of up to 100 Mbps, with low latency, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, including online gaming, video conferencing, and streaming.

Since the announcement of Starlink to Nigeria, other ISPs have been receiving some heat from unsatisfied customers and some have responded as civilly as can be. There’s a new guy in town and he’s bringing competition to Nigeria’s ISP market. It will be interesting to see how others respond.

The pricing of Starlink may be its Achilles heel for Nigerian customers as its hardware costs $600 (one-off) and monthly subscription, $43.
