Samsung Certified Re-Newed phones are now sold on Amazon. On Oct. 21, Samsung put 14 refurbished Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S25 listings on Amazon.com, with prices starting at $489. Until now, Samsung sold its own refurbished phones mainly through Samsung.com.

The short version

Samsung is selling its own refurbished Galaxy S24 and S25 phones on Amazon, each with a new battery and a one-year warranty. The best pick for most people is the Galaxy S25, because it has the longest update window and the newest base design. The Galaxy S24 FE is the cheapest per year of updates.

  1. Prices start at $489, according to Samsung, across 14 listings of seven models.
  2. Every phone gets a new battery, genuine Samsung parts and 147 quality checks, Samsung says.
  3. Each phone comes with a one-year limited warranty and can be covered by Samsung Care+.
  4. By our count, a Galaxy S25 has a little over five years of security updates left. The cheaper Galaxy S24 FE has about five, and the Galaxy S24 about four.
  5. The downside: there is no charger or case in the box, only a data cable, a quick start guide and a SIM pin.

What Samsung Certified Re-Newed means

These are not used phones from a stranger. Samsung says each one is serviced by its own technicians, repaired with 100 percent genuine Samsung parts and given a certified new battery. It has to pass 147 quality checks before it gets the Certified Re-Newed label. It ships in recyclable packaging with a data cable, a quick start guide and a SIM ejector pin, according to Samsung’s announcement.

Each phone carries a one-year limited warranty from Samsung. You can also add Samsung Care+, which covers drops, spills and breakdowns. Under that plan, a cracked screen or cracked back glass costs $29 per claim to fix, Samsung says.

What changes for you: buying refurbished used to mean guessing who fixed the phone and how tired the battery was. With these, Samsung did the repair, the battery is new, and the store is one most people already use. That takes most of the risk out of saving money on a Galaxy.

Which Samsung Certified Re-Newed phones are on Amazon

Samsung listed seven models, each in two storage sizes and one color:

  • Galaxy S24 FE: 128GB or 256GB, Graphite
  • Galaxy S24: 128GB or 256GB, Onyx Black
  • Galaxy S24+: 256GB or 512GB, Onyx Black
  • Galaxy S24 Ultra: 256GB or 512GB, Titanium Black
  • Galaxy S25: 128GB or 256GB, Silver Shadow
  • Galaxy S25+: 256GB or 512GB, Silver Shadow
  • Galaxy S25 Ultra: 256GB or 512GB, Titanium Black

Samsung gave one starting price, $489, and Amazon prices move often, so check the listing before you buy. For a sense of the savings, the cheapest phone in this lineup, the Galaxy S24 FE, cost $649.99 new at launch. The $489 starting price is $160.99 below that.

The math that matters: years of updates left

Price is only half the deal. The other half is how long the phone will keep getting security fixes. Samsung promised seven years of security updates for the Galaxy S24 series, the S24 FE and the S25 series. We counted forward from each launch date:

  • Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra (launched January 2024): updates into early 2031, about four years from now.
  • Galaxy S24 FE (launched October 2024): updates into late 2031, about five years from now.
  • Galaxy S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra (launched February 2025): updates into early 2032, a little over five years from now.

That extra year over the S24 is why we lean toward the S25 models. The S24 FE sits close to the S25 on updates, and it can be the cheapest per year of support. At Samsung’s $489 starting price, about five years of updates works out to roughly $98 a year. The Galaxy S25 gets about four more months of support, so it only beats that if it costs less than about $520. Check the price on each listing before you choose. The trade-off with the S24 FE is that it is an older, heavier design. You can check where any Samsung phone stands on our Samsung security update list.

Our picks

We picked these on what you get for the money, not on store or commission.

Best for most people: Galaxy S25, 128GB. It is the newest base model here, it is small enough for one hand, and it has the longest update window in the lineup. Pick 256GB if you shoot a lot of video.

Best on a budget: Galaxy S24 FE, 128GB. It is the cheapest way into this program, with a big screen and the same seven-year update promise. The downside: it is the oldest design in the lineup, and it is heavier than the Galaxy S25. Skip if: you want the smallest phone or the best camera here.

Best camera and screen: Galaxy S25 Ultra, 256GB. It has the biggest screen, the longest zoom and the S Pen. The downside: it costs the most of any phone here and it is large. Skip if: you mostly text, browse and post, because the Galaxy S25 does that just as well.

Before you buy

  • Make sure the listing says Samsung Certified Re-Newed. The three we checked on Oct. 22 were sold and shipped by Amazon.com, with free 30-day returns. Skip third-party listings of similar phones.
  • The Amazon listings describe these as unlocked US versions. If you are on a smaller carrier, check that it supports the phone before you buy.
  • Samsung.com sells the same Certified Re-Newed models and has offered trade-in credit on them, so compare the final price there before you check out.
  • If you are selling or trading in your old phone, wipe it properly first.
  • Decide on Samsung Care+ in the first days after purchase, since repair costs on modern phones add up fast. See what one bad drop can cost in our iPhone Duo repair cost breakdown.

If you have been waiting for a cheaper Galaxy and want years of updates, the Galaxy S25 is the one to look at first. If the budget is tight, the S24 FE still has about five good years left.
