Microsoft to roll out built-in VPN, Edge Secure Network on Edge browser

Microsoft’s built-in VPN service, the edge security network has been made available through a Microsoft edge insider program.

Microsoft wants to help users browse the internet more securely with the Edge Secure Network. This feature is simply a VPN built into the Edge browser. While a few other browsers have also launched a VPN service available on their browsers, Chrome’s Google One VPN and Mozilla‘s VPN are paid but Opera‘s and Microsoft’s are largely free.

The Microsoft Edge Secure Network VPN will soon roll out to Microsoft users around the world with added security features. This security feature will assure users of a private browsing experience, encrypt user web traffic, and also erase any geo-blocking. With the edge security network activated, a user will be able to browse the internet while still concealing their IP address.

Microsoft Edge Secure Network VPN, is free, but…

The edge security network is free to use, “but” a user has a limit of 1 GB monthly usage while on the built-in VPN service. This feature is currently available in a Microsoft Edge insider program. To access the program, users need a working Microsoft account. One can access the Edge browser VPN via the Edge settings. Soon, it will be available for use and everyone using the Edge browser will have a free VPN to enjoy a more secure browsing experience.

This move by Microsoft might be a way to onboard more Windows users to the Edge browser. Microsoft has been pushing against the use of any other browser as the main browser on a Windows-powered computer. A free VPN might just be what users need to make their experience on the Edge browser more sustained.
