iPhone Duo goes on sale today, Friday, Oct. 23, and the first question after “how much” is which iPhone Duo apps actually use the 7.6-inch inner screen. Apple has named more than 40 apps with layouts built for it, from Netflix to United Airlines, plus 18 more for China, Korea, Europe and Latin America. Five of them come with a later date. We sorted Apple’s list into what works on day one, what is still coming, and which everyday apps are not on it.
The short version
Apple says apps rebuilt for the iPhone Duo’s big inner screen start arriving in the App Store today, the day the $1,999 phone reaches stores. Most of the apps Apple named are ready now, but a few big ones are weeks away.
- Apple named more than 40 apps with iPhone Duo layouts, plus 18 regional apps, and says updates start arriving on Oct. 23.
- Five of them have a later date: Microsoft Word and Outlook in the coming weeks, Zenless Zone Zero next month, UnGodly in November and DoorDash later this year.
- WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, Spotify and Gmail are not on Apple’s list, and Apple’s announcement does not say how apps without an update look on the inner screen.
- iPhone Duo costs $1,999 for 256GB, $2,199 for 512GB, $2,599 for 1TB and $3,199 for 2TB on apple.com, checked Oct. 23.
- Before you pay, open your five most used apps on a store demo unit and check that they fill the inner screen.
What changes for you: a foldable is only as good as the apps that know it unfolds. If the apps you open 50 times a day still look like a stretched phone screen, a $1,999 phone gives you a bigger picture of the same thing. The list below tells you, app by app, whether the big screen pays off for you today or only later.
Which iPhone Duo apps work on the big screen today
Apple’s developer announcement says the new layouts go live in the App Store starting today. Here is what each group of apps does differently on the inner screen, in Apple’s words, trimmed to the useful part.
Watching
- Netflix: browse Clips on the outer screen, then keep watching on the inner one.
- Apple TV, Prime Video and Paramount+: shows fill the larger screen. Prime Video puts X-Ray details on the bottom half when the phone is partly folded.
- MLB and PGA Tour: live games and highlights, with real-time scores, stats and leaderboards on the larger screen.

Work
- Zoom: shared content and the people in the call on one screen.
- Slack and Salesforce: more of your channels or dashboards visible at once.
- Fantastical, Things, Bear and Notewise: calendars, tasks and notes in a wider layout.

Making things
- Instagram and Edits: more posts and Stories at once, and a full editing timeline.
- VLLO and Detail: video editing with more controls and the transcript beside the clip.
- edjing Mix: two DJ decks side by side.
Everyday life and travel
- NYT Cooking: bigger recipes when the phone is propped up on the counter.
- Yelp, Lyft and OpenTable: maps, reviews, rides and bookings with more room.
- American Airlines, United Airlines and Flighty: boarding passes, seat maps and flight tracking.
- Shop, LTK and Lowe’s: bigger product views while you shop.
- Sky Guide, Tide Guide and Next Shot: star maps, tide charts and golf course previews edge to edge.

Games
- Asphalt Legends: racing on the full inner screen against up to seven online players.
- Sneaky Sasquatch and Retrocade on Apple Arcade: bigger when open, quick play when closed.
- Deck-Man: turns the phone into a cassette player. Open it to put a tape in, close it to play. It is the least practical idea on the list and easily the most fun.
Which iPhone Duo apps arrive later
Five apps on Apple’s list are not ready today. If one of them is the reason you want a foldable, you can wait without missing much.
- Microsoft Word and Outlook: “in the coming weeks”, with formatting tools beside the document and the inbox beside the message.
- Zenless Zone Zero: its iPhone Duo update arrives next month.
- UnGodly: launches in the App Store in November.
- DoorDash: delivery tracking on a larger map, “later this year”.
That is four entries because Word and Outlook arrive together. For anyone buying the Duo mainly for email and documents, those two are the ones to watch.
Popular apps that are not on Apple’s list
Several apps most people open every day are missing from Apple’s announcement, including WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, Spotify, Gmail, Google Maps, Facebook, X and Uber. Instagram and its video editing app, Edits, are the only Meta apps named.
Missing from the list does not mean an app will not open. It means Apple did not name it as rebuilt for the inner screen, and Apple’s announcement does not explain how apps without an update will look there. Some of these companies may ship updates on their own schedule.
What iPhone Duo costs, by storage size
These are Apple’s unlocked prices, checked on apple.com on Oct. 23:
- 256GB: $1,999
- 512GB: $2,199 ($200 more)
- 1TB: $2,599 ($600 more)
- 2TB: $3,199 ($1,200 more)
Apple also lists the base model at $83.29 a month over 24 months, which works out to $1,998.96. iPhone Duo is in stores today in more than 70 countries and regions, including the US, and reaches 28 more on Friday, Oct. 30.
Repairs are the other number to know before you buy. We broke down what a cracked inner screen costs, with and without AppleCare, in our iPhone Duo repair cost guide. If you are still deciding whether a $1,999 phone makes sense at all, start with our breakdown of whether the foldable iPhone is worth it.
A two-minute test before you pay $1,999
- Write down the five apps you open most often. Check your phone’s Screen Time if you are not sure.
- At an Apple Store or carrier store, open each one on a demo iPhone Duo with the phone fully unfolded.
- Check that the app fills the screen with text at a normal size. If it leaves empty space at the sides or looks blown up, it is not making good use of the big screen yet.
- Fold the phone halfway, like a tiny laptop, and see whether the app splits into a top and bottom half. Only some apps on Apple’s list do this.
- If two or more of your five apps fail the test, think about waiting a few months while developers catch up.
The next date to watch is Oct. 30, when iPhone Duo reaches 28 more countries, and Microsoft’s Word and Outlook updates, which Apple says arrive in the coming weeks. For more on the phone itself, see our research-based iPhone Duo review.
