Apple’s VR headset delayed

The delay is believed to be due to challenges of designing a VR headset that meets Apple’s stringent design standards.

Tech enthusiasts around the world have been eagerly anticipating the launch of Apple’s much-rumored mixed-reality headset, which was originally expected to debut in 2022. However, according to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the launch of the highly anticipated device has been delayed until late 2023.

Apple has not yet confirmed the delay or provided any details on the expected release date for the headset. But Kuo, who has a proven track record of accurately predicting Apple’s product releases, took to Twitter to break the news. “Because Apple isn’t very optimistic about the AR/MR headset announcement recreating the astounding “iPhone moment,” the mass production schedule for assembly has been pushed back by another 1-2 months to mid-to-late Q23,” he stated.

“The delay also adds uncertainty to whether the new device will appear at WWDC 2023, as the market widely expects. Furthermore, due to the delay in mass production for assembly, the shipment forecast this year is only 200,000 to 300,000 units, lower than the market consensus of 500,000 units or more. The main concerns for Apple not being very optimistic regarding the market feedback to the AR/MR headset announcement include the economic downturn, compromises on some hardware specifications for mass production (such as weight), the readiness of the ecosystem and applications, a high selling price (USD 3,000-4,000 or even higher), etc.” He continued.

The delay is believed to be due to the technical challenges of designing a high-quality VR headset that meets Apple’s stringent design standards. According to a report from Bloomberg, the headset is expected to be a “high-end, niche product” with a hefty price tag, which means Apple will need to ensure it delivers a truly exceptional experience.

Despite the delay, experts predict that the Apple mixed reality headset will be a game-changer in the tech industry, revolutionizing the way we interact with our devices and opening up new possibilities for immersive experiences in areas such as gaming, education, and entertainment.

While the delay may be disappointing for those eagerly awaiting the launch of the mixed reality headset, it is important to remember that Apple’s focus on delivering high-quality, innovative products has been a driving force behind its success. As the company continues to refine and improve its mixed reality technology, consumers can look forward to a truly groundbreaking device when it finally hits the market in late 2023.
