At Apple’s WWDC event last night, quite a number of exciting announcements were made. On the iOS 17 and iPhone side of things, the company made some beautiful additions to its mobile product.
Contact Posters
This is a coming feature on iOS 17. Contact Posters are customizable designs that appear when making calls; avatars if you may. You can create yours such that when you call a contact, your personalized poster will be displayed on their screen. Every iPhone users’ Contact Posters are stored in the Contacts app, allowing you to see their chosen images whenever you access their information or communicate with them across iOS.
Namedrop
Namedrop works with Contact Posters and as its name implies, it functions just like Airdrop and with it. Instead of typing numbers, email addresses and whatnot, you can now simply Namedrop a contact from one iPhone to the other. While this is reminiscent of Samsung’s business card reader function, it works differently. Upon Namedropping your contact, you get to choose which detail on your Contact Poster you want to share. You can in fact Namedrop via Apple watch as Airdrop now works on it.
Airdrop
This is a particularly exciting update as you no longer have to tether to receive files from another iPhone. iPhone users can now leave the immediate AirDrop range without interrupting the transmission of photos or large files. These files will continue to be sent over the internet, ensuring a seamless and uninterrupted sharing experience.
While Apple often gets flack for exaggerating new features on the iPhone that already exist on Android phones, the iOS17 updates are truly impressive and functional. Whether Android users already have them as is, is another conversation altogether. Watch this space for more WWDC 2023 announcements.
