HMD Global has announced the release of the new flagship Nokia 8 into the Nigerian market. This is coming after the release of the Nokia 3310 and the Android powered Nokia 5 which fall within the mid-range category.
The Nokia 8 is expected to compete favourably with high end devices in the market, it is Nokia’s first flagship product powered by the Android operating system.
The phone comes with a 5.3-inch IPS LCD display with a Quad HD resolution of 1440 pixels by 2560 pixels at 554 pixels per inch. It runs on Android 7.1.1 and powered by a 1.8GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor 835 chipset. Internal storage is packed at 64GB and that can also be expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card.
Both front and back cameras are 13 mega-pixels. Nokia’s flagship model seems to have camera features good enough to compete with other flagship devices. Both front and back cameras are equipped with ZEISS optics to guarantee improvement in light capturing and image quality.
The highlight of the camera is the first for mobile phone Dual-Sight mode; a technology that lets you capture video and image from both rear and front cameras, producing a split-screen for photos and videos. Nokia wants you to “Be Less Selfie. Be more #Bothie”. You can also do a real time live video stream to Facebook and YouTube with just one touch, creating more immersive experiences for those who love to create and share special moments.
Nokia 8 is also the first smartphone to feature Nokia OZO Audio, placing exclusive Hollywood technology in the palm of your hand. OZO spatial 360° audio brings a fully immersive audio experience to your 4K video. Leading-edge 360° audio capture ensures the playback lets you truly relive the moment so your memories never fade.

Everything about the Nokia 8 is great, except the “Bothie” feature which Samsung had long featured on their Galaxy series, starting from Galaxy S4. I hope this wouldn’t lead to some litigations. Besides this, it’s a device I’ll like to own.
