Google Assistant

Need help getting things done faster on your Android device? Google Assistant can very well help. You can easily describe this feature as a personal assistant for your device. We’ll walk you through quick actions it can help you perform on your smartphone.

Understanding the basics of Google Assistant

Google Assistant comes pre-installed on every Android device but most people either do not use it, or aren’t using it to the fullest. A few manufacturers add a button to their smartphones for easy accessibility. Others rely on the in-built software to activate and make use of the assistant feature.

If your Android device comes with a customizable action button (e.g. Nokia), the button helps activate your assistant. On other devices, you can activate your assistant by pulling up from the far bottom right-hand side of your screen. Either step you take, a pop-up will appear, signifying that your assistant is ready to “take orders.”

Most people mainly use Assistant to search the web, but, there is more to the feature than Search like the following:

  • Launch applications from your assistant. To do this, simply activate your assistant and tell it to launch an application.
  • Find songs by singing a line or two to your assistant. Even if you don’t have the best voice, your assistant will find the song you’re looking for.
  • Set quick reminders while running through your daily activities. Activate your assistant and tell it what to remind you of at a particular time. Once it’s the set time, your assistant will set off your reminder.
  • Install applications right from Google PlayStore. Tell your assistant the exact application you want to install, and it’d take you to the installation page on PlayStore.
  • Make a call directly from your smartwatch. If you are using a smartwatch running Google’s WearOS then you can make a call directly from your wrist. Simply activate Google Assistant and tell it whom to call, and it will call the person. You can also do this on your smartphone.
  • Control your smart home appliances. If you make use of smart bulbs or other smart appliances that support Google Assistant, then you can control them from your device with only your voice.

These are a few actions that the in-built assistant on your Android device can help you perform. With future updates to its system, Google Assistant will be able to get more things done on and off your Android device.
