WhatsApp introduces Call Links, could rival Zoom & Google Meets for long group meetings

WhatsApp Call Links is a better and more convenient way to share and join calls on the Meta owned social media platform.
WhatsApp Call Link

The CEO of Meta took to his Facebook page to share the new WhatsApp Call Link feature. This new feature will be available for both audio and video calls on the messaging platform. Users across the world will get Call Links this week.

Before now, when a WhatsApp call starts, the host or any participant can add other people to the call from their contacts. With Call Links on WhatsApp, users can simply share the link to join the video or audio call on WhatsApp.

This is a more convenient way to invite other participants to join a WhatsApp call. The host of the call or any other member can simply share the link with another person via direct message. The recipient of the link can now choose whether to join the call or not.

Will Cathcart, head of the team at WhatsApp also took to his Twitter account to share information on this coming feature. But, neither Cathcart nor Mark Zuckerberg gave in-depth details of this “call link” feature. The latter did say that this feature will be followed by another update to video calls. This feature will add up to 32 participants to a video call and will not have a time limit like other group meeting apps. The WhatsApp Call Link feature will make its way to users in an update to roll out within the week.

This, along with a host of other features in the development stage, show that WhatsApp is stepping up its services. With mounting pressure from other messaging applications, WhatsApp has no other choice but to improve. The introduction of new user-friendly features will boost the overall experience on WhatsApp, hence giving it an edge over the competition.
