Viber now allows you to set a self-destruct timer for your photos and videos

I love sharing my throwback pictures with friends. But some of these my lovely friends save the pictures and go as far as posting them on Instagram for the world to see. Sad, sad something.

I’m sure I’m not alone when it comes to worrying about sharing personal things on messaging apps. Misuse of personal pictures or information is a world concern now because you never can tell how far those things can go.

Before now, Viber introduced a feature which lets users delete a conversation from both sides. But now, the messaging app has rolled out a new update with a ‘secret messages’ feature. This feature allows users set a timer for images they want to share but don’t want to stay in the chat.

A picture can be sent to someone with a view time of 1 , 3 , 7 or 10 seconds. When the time is up, the recipient gets a record that something was shared by you but they cannot view it.

The same goes for video, that now it can be sent with the option for the recipient to be able to view it just one time before it disappears from the archive. This private feature works for groups as well as individual chats using Viber on Android and iOs devices.

I’m not sure this update is available in Nigeria yet because I tried updating the app this morning and I got nothing. Let’s just hope it comes in soon.

I think the concept of this feature is good; in fact it is erasing most of my worries now. But then what will happen when a screenshot of the timed picture is taken?
