Two Nigerian startups listed among others in Google for Startups’ AI for Health

Google on Tuesday announced 30 startups selected to participate in its new Google for Startups: AI for Health program. 

Sofia Benjumea, Head of Google for Startups, EMEA made the announcement in a blogpost.

Google selected the 30 startups across 15 countries.

“Today we are proud to announce 30 startups selected for the program, representing 15 countries from the whole region.”

Two Nigerian startups, mDoc and Pharmarun made the list.

mDoc is a digital health company that provides virtual self-care health coaching to people living with or at risk for chronic health needs. 

Pharmarun, an on-demand platform simplifying how Africans access medication through the use of technology.   

Other countries include Sweden, Estonia, Spain, United Kingdom,  Poland, Germany, France, Rwanda, Kenya, Israel, Egypt, Romania, Czech and the U.A.E.

Google for Startups Growth Academy: AI for Health is a hybrid program dedicated to supporting high-potential startups using AI technology to grow and innovate responsibly in the healthcare and wellbeing industry.

It is a three-month program for healthcare and wellbeing startups. To provide essential growth skills, internationalization strategies, and Google tools & products to help them scale.

According to Google, the aim is to expose these startups to AI best practices and also connect them to venture capitalists and experts in the field.

Google noted that several startups globally are now using AI to make healthcare better for everyone, ranging from developing new treatments to improving the accuracy of diagnosis and personalizing care for patients.

The program comes with many benefits, including;

  • Three months of equity-free support, with access to Google products and resources.
  • Technical consulting and one-on-one support from Google mentors and AI experts.
  • Support on AI, company, and product strategy
  • Hands-on leadership training designed to improve management skills.
  • Support from mentors and Google teams on new international opportunities, to expand  business to new markets.
  • Connect with VCs, industry leaders and fellow founders, and become a part of our alumni network.

Selected startups will  have one – on – one  mentorship sessions. 

They will also receive technical project support from experts from Google Research, Google Health, Verily, Fitbit, Google DeepMind and more. 

In all, the startups are in for over three months of workshops, mentoring, and networking events.

Founders develop data-driven strategies for acquiring new customers and partnerships.. They Innovate responsibly with emerging technologies, and expand to new markets.

The program’s kick-off and graduation sessions will be held in person. The location will be made public in the coming months.
