TechCity has gathered that the soon-to-launch Qualcomm PC SoC may be a close competitor to the Apple M-series. Yes, Qualcomm Snapdragon, the makers of smartphone processors popular on most Android flagship devices are working on their new PC processor. This coming chip will be a 12-core laptop processor and will make its way to certain Windows and ChromeOS laptops.

While there is no official statement from Qualcomm regarding their coming PC processor yet, some information about its arrival appear legit. Thanks to Kuba Wojciechowski, we get to meet this processor and what it could bring to the table.

Details on the coming Qualcomm PC SoC

According to the tweet on this coming PC processor, it will make use of the same configuration as the Apple M1. It will have 12 in-house cores using the Nuvia Phoenix design and will support discrete graphics processing unit (dGPU). The codename of the coming Qualcomm PC SoC according to Wojciechowski will be Hamoa.

This won’t be the first PC processor from Qualcomm, as the company already has the Snapdragon 8cx. The 8cx series currently has three generations of processors, with the Gen 3 becoming official back in December 2021. We expect more details on the Hamoa processor before or by the end of the year. It will proceed to launch within the year 2024 giving its manufacturer ample time to perfect its performance. Claims that the Qualcomm Hamon will rival the Apple M-series chips may be too soon to tell but seem wild because of the power the Apple M-series wield.

Its success after launch will determine the level of adoption by various PC brands for use in laptops and desktops. Currently, processors from Snapdragon are in use on various laptops from brands like Microsoft Surface, HP, Acer, Xiaomi, Lenovo, and Samsung. These laptops run Windows and also ChromeOS effectively on their various Snapdragon processors.
