TechCity and Cresthall Attorneys partner on legaltech series; “Startup Suits”

Startup Suits aims to cover a wide range of legal topics relevant to startups, including contracts, founder-investor relationships, government policy, and more.

TechCity, in partnership with Cresthall Attorneys, is proud to present “Startup Suits,” a one-of-a-kind web series designed to provide essential legal insights to startup owners, creative entrepreneurs, and individuals in the tech ecosystem. Inspired by the popular legal TV show “Suits,” this series aims to help startups avoid potential legal pitfalls and navigate the complex landscape of regulations and contracts.

Having been at the fore of exceptional tech content production for over a decade, TechCity is now expanding its influence with the launch of Startup Suits.

“Startup Suits” launches this August, offering a blend of engaging content, including interactive Twitter Spaces, easy-to-read articles, and various other tech and legal resources on TechCity’s digital channels. Through this collaborative effort, TechCity and Cresthall Attorneys seek to bridge the knowledge gap that often exists between the technology and legal sectors in Nigeria.

Highlighting the significance of Startup Suits, Editor in Chief and Content development lead at TechCity, BellaRose Duruji said, “it is our mission at TechCity to make difficult concepts easier to understand for people who use technology at any level. We started it with gadget reviews and have inspired many content creators who are now creating tech content in simple everyday lingo. We’ve done it with our news reporting and are going a step further with legaltech.”

Adebayo Afabamise, Managing Partner at Cresthall Attorneys, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “This partnership with TechCity marks a significant milestone for Cresthall, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to the technology community in Nigeria, particularly the emerging startups. Through this platform, we aim to engage directly with startups, providing them with invaluable insights, guidance, and strategies to navigate the intricate legal landscape. It presents us with a remarkable opportunity to contribute to the growth and sustainability of the local tech ecosystem.”

The series aims to cover a wide range of legal topics relevant to startups, including contracts, founder-investor relationships, legal representation, intellectual property protection, copyright infringement, getting clarity on letters in fine print, terms and conditions, government policies, and more. By bringing together the expertise of Cresthall Attorneys and TechCity’s influence in Nigeria’s ecosystem over the years, Startup Suits presents a unique opportunity to empower startups with the knowledge necessary to thrive in the competitive business landscape.

On the choice of Cresthall as a partner for the series, Co-founder and GM TechCity, Gbenga Sawyer said, “we have chosen to partner with Cresthall Attorneys because they are seeking to solve the legal knowledge gap limiting the potential of the members of the tech and start-up community. We believe this partnership will be of immense benefit to the community and will lead to more innovation and success in the tech and start-up space.”

Partner at Cresthall Attorneys, Ifeoluwa Duro-Bello, stressed the importance of understanding the legal implications of building a startup, saying, “We have all heard ‘build first, worry later’ in different variations to encourage founders in their journey, but no one really challenges the implications of not considering regulations that may bring ruin to all the efforts one puts into building. Using our knowledge and TechCity’s platform, we will bridge the knowledge gap that exists between law and the technology industry in Nigeria.”

While Startup Suits is targeted at startup owners, BellaRose emphasized how inclusive and practical conversations will be, of creatives who are pseudo startup owners. She stated, “Never mind that the name is a tad poetic, Startup Suits wants to be a place where conversations around law are fun and easy to digest. We understand that creatives are also entrepreneurs, and Startup Suits is for them. The series will address questions from them as users of tech products and services.”

The weekly Twitter Spaces sessions of Startup Suits will feature insightful discussions and expert guests, with replays available on the TechCity Podcast. As the series grows, other channels will be introduced to expand its reach. The first episode kicks off this Friday, August 11th 2023 at 6:pm on @TechCityNG & @Cresthall on Twitter Spaces.
