ChatGPT by OpenAI is the future of search and Google is insecure about it

Companies like Microsoft are widely accepting the artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT, while others aren’t comfortable with its usage.

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence tool that can hold conversations in a way that is similar to a human. It was developed by a company called OpenAI and became viral a few months ago when more and more people discovered it and its impressive conversational ability.

According to reports, Microsoft is planning to integrate ChatGPT into its Bing browser in a update set to be released this March. Both the virality of the tool and this integration have put Google in high temp mode.

Some reports say the Sundar Pichai led team at Google was on Code “Red” and that Google cited “factuality issues” on results/answers ChatGPT provides. But Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, admits that it is not yet safe to rely on the tool for important tasks.

Worthy of note is that data and information that appear on sites like Google contribute to the final results ChatGPT gives users. So far, the tool has disrupted the concept of search, human-machine interaction and so much more.

While users of the platform have highlighted the usefulness of ChatGPT in the area of content creation, essay assists, business and entrepreneurship advice, the tool itself says the model could potentially be used for any application that requires generating natural language text as part of a conversation or chat-based system.

It also breaks down possible uses for ChatGPT into:

  • Generating human-like responses in chatbot or virtual assistant systems, allowing them to carry on more natural and realistic conversations with users.
  • Providing assistance or customer service in online chat or messaging systems, by answering questions and providing information to users in real-time.
  • Generating content for social media or other online platforms, such as creating responses to comments or creating new posts based on prompts or themes.
  • Providing language translation or language learning assistance, by generating translations or explanations of words and phrases in real-time as part of a conversation.
  • Creating chat-based games or interactive experiences, by generating responses to user input and guiding the direction of the conversation.
  • Providing automated responses to customer inquiries in e-commerce or other online systems, by answering common questions and providing information about products or services.

In response to the likely abuse of ChatGPT, a student, Edward Tian has created an app called GPTZero, a tool which can detect texts written by the AI tool based on its “perplexity and burstiness.”

Further, OpenAI has announced plans to introduce a system to combat plagiarism which raises curiosity on how much it will charge once it is ready to roll out as a full product.

Hinting that it cost OpenAI over $3m/daily to keep ChatGPT running, CEO, Sam Altman said categorically that the tool would not be free forever.

Once the app rolls out after beta-testing, the changes could be dramatic but for now, there is relative world peace and ChatGPT is the most revolutionary thing to happen in tech since the mobile phone.
