NASRDA and FUTA to launch Satellite into space tomorrow

On Tuesday, the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, Ondo State, announced that it would launch a satellite into space tomorrow, the 1st of June, 2017.

This is in partnership with The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) and five other countries, having completed the global project for the design and manufacture of the five identical nano-satellites to be launched into space tomorrow.

It is the first university satellite to be launched in Nigeria

According to the university, the satellite belongs to Nigeria, Ghana, Japan, Bangladesh and Mongolia. The satellite known as the Birds Project would be launched into Space from Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, USA at 10:55pm (Nigerian Time). The Birds Project comprises 5 CubeSats belonging to the 5 countries.

 

 

Report has it that the CubeSats will be launched and docked to the International Space Station where the satellites will be deployed into lower orbit during the last week of June 2017.

It is the first university satellite to be launched in Nigeria.
