Kugali Teams Up with Walt Disney Animation Studios to Create an Animated Series!

Disney Animation has announced a first-of-its-kind collaboration with Kugali Media, a Pan-African entertainment company. For the series called “Iwájú,” which roughly translates to “The Future” in the Yoruba language, both companies will team up to create an all-new, science fiction series coming to #DisneyPlus in 2022.

The Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Kugali Media, Tolu Olowofoyeku, also announced the collaboration in a Twitter post.

This is great news for Kugali, a Pan-African entertainment company that focuses on telling stories inspired by African Culture using comic books, art, and Augmented Reality. These are stories that respect history, embrace the present, and imagine the future of Africa.

Kugali, which comes from a Swahili phrase, “A-Kujali,” meaning “something that matters,” is the biggest seller of African comic books in the world. The media company, which is Africa’s largest comic network, was founded by Ziki Nelson, Hamid Ibrahim, and Tolu Olowofoyeku in 2017.

The Walt Disney Animation Studios boasts of a legacy of innovation and has been responsible for creating some of the most beloved films ever made. With this unique partnership, it is without a doubt that Kugali will be bringing African narratives to a global audience.
