Jack Dorsey opens Bluesky to users worldwide

Bluesky is still accessible exclusively via invitation, but according to a blog post, anyone can now view posts on the social media platform without creating an account or logging in.

Bluesky received global acclaim when it was announced by former Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey but in recent times, the leadership of the social media platform has shifted to Jay Graber who is BlueSky CEO. Dorsey and XMPP creator Jeremie Miller sit on its board of directors.

After going through a testing period, the social media network progressively opened up access to more users in order to improve the protocol user experience. Apparently, Bluesky, which was unveiled in late 2019, is now publicly accessible and prepared for broad use.

In any case, you can “discourage” users who are not logged-in from viewing your posts by hitting a toggle in the settings. However, the platform warns that the setting does not make your account private and that “other apps may not honor this request.”

Bluesky also gets a new logo—a butterfly. The app’s previous logo featured a cloud-filled blue sky, but according to Graber’s blog post, “early on, we noticed that people were organically using the butterfly emoji 🦋 to indicate their Bluesky handles.” “The butterfly speaks to our mission of transforming social media into something new.”

Will you be joining Bluesky or are you sticking to Twitter (X)?
