Surfing through some entertainment stories, this headline caught my attention, “Instagram Blocked the Search Term “Curvy” But Don’t Worry, You Can Still Search for “Dildo” by E!online. First instincts, I rushed for my phone to actually try searching the term myself and here is what I found:
Indeed, the term has been deleted from the search list and personally, I find that quite hilarious. According to the report on E!online, Instagram has confirmed that they blocked the term because it was being used to share images and videos that violated Instagram community guidelines particularly the nudity aspect.
The reporter of the story on E!online seems quite offended by this as many might be as she says, “the inconsistencies about what they allow and what they don’t allow is making us roll our eyes”. She goes on to explain herself by saying, “we able to search “vaginas,” “dildo,” “strap on,” bitch” “fat,” and terms associated with promoting eating disorders? We found all kinds of nudity and photos that definitely violated many Community Guidelines. What gives, Instagram? We can’t search for a curvy girl in a bikini but we are free to stare at girls sporting nothing but a thong with the hashtag #ED and #ribcage? And not to mention all those strap on pics! Surely that’s not consistent with your guidelines”.
Well, if you still want to search for all the curvy girls, I guess you can just add any of the suffixes that you see from my search above lol
