Huawei Smart Office, a glimpse into the future of IoT

Huawei’s Smart Office aimed at seamlessly connecting multiple devices was showcased at the MWC 2022. Here’s what that means

Edited by BellaRose Okojie

At the MWC 2022, Huawei showcased the Smart Office and showed how it works across a host of its products. The showcase reinforced how ingrained innovation has always been in Huawei’s product line with its in-house developed HarmonyOS bringing multi-device connectivity closer to users.

Innovation aside, Huawei has been enduring scarring and painful blows by the relentless sanctions from the US government , yet, giving up on the global market is not on its checklist. The internet of things (IoT) is becoming a big player in everyday life and Huawei has continued to build its ecosystem to be one that connects multiple devices. Understanding the role Huawei’s ecosystem plays in seamless connection will help throw more light on the smart office.

HarmonyOS – One as All. All as One

The very lifeline of the Huawei Smart Office is HarmonyOS, an operating system that treats all devices as though they are one. HarmonyOS is a distributive operating system designed by Huawei to run its devices. What is a “distributive operating system?”

HarmonyOS is distributive in that, all devices are connected through the same information channel, making it easier for them to work together as one. Cross-device integration is possible via the use of just one operating system across a wide range of smart devices.

Huawei has a wide range of smart products in the form of smartphones, tablets, laptops, PCs, smartwatches and even smart electric cars. The company showcased how its smart office works across a good number of its devices at MWC 2022. This innovation is targeted at the large number of people who work from home.

To aid productivity, Huawei developed what it calls a “Super Device.” This Super device helps its products sync and share their resources. To create a super device, a simple drag and drop on the control panel of the said device will connect it with one or more devices.

Once a connection is established between a Huawei smartphone and a Huawei MateBook (for instance), users will be able to control their phones from their laptops. Multiple activities ranging from file sharing between phone and laptop to even picking calls on the phone can be conducted from the MateBook. This can help users working from home stay focused on only one screen, thereby enhancing productivity.

There is a wide range of products from Huawei that can take advantage of this feature. With HarmonyOS’s ever-growing user base, this feature will come in handy for a lot of people out there!
