Google is making its Home app smarter and easier to use by bringing Gemini AI into the experience. Following the announcement that Gemini would be integrated into Google Home smart devices, the company is now rolling out a significant redesign of the Home app that highlights AI-powered controls, better navigation, and new features.
Gemini AI Comes to Google Home App
According to Android Authority, the upcoming v3.41.50.3 update introduces an “Ask Home” search bar at the top of the app. This new feature lets you type or speak commands to control your smart devices, review video history, or get detailed descriptions of recent activity.
This aligns with Google’s earlier announcement that Gemini for Home would power smart speakers and displays, enabling natural language control of connected devices. Now, those same AI-powered capabilities are coming directly into the app.
The redesign also brings a simpler navigation structure. The Favorites tab has been renamed to Home, while the Devices and Settings tab has been removed from the bottom bar. Instead, devices can now be accessed via a grid icon inside the Home tab.
These changes aim to reduce clutter and make device management faster and more intuitive.
New Tiles and Smart Features
The updated Home app also adds support for new favorite tiles, including outdoor air quality and temperature. Fresh icons for video and a thermometer have also been spotted on the Home page. These may hint at upcoming Nest hardware launches, which are expected next month.
What This Means for Users
While the overall UI design remains familiar, the changes reflect Google’s push to put Gemini AI at the center of smart home controls. With easier access to device history, voice commands, and smarter tile options, the Home app is evolving into a more powerful central hub for connected homes.
Google has also been testing features in its Public Preview program, and this major update could signal that many of those trial features will finally roll out to all users.
