Features that make the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge different, outstanding and truly irresistible.

I have been using the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for a while now and i must say it’s a really lovely and powerful device. At TechCity HQ we decided to highlight some of the things that impress greatly on the device and some that don’t as opposed to a traditional review, and of course BellaRose had to be the face in the video because she loves the spotlight way too much while I was busy behind the camera making sure she spoke my mind.

Enjoy the video below.

PS: If you feel you don’t have sufficient data to watch the video now, you can read some of the things she said below. But it would be super cool if you watched the video because BellaRose had some funny expressions on her face while exploring the phone.BellaRose

Design: Samsung’s unique curved display technology is a major feature that the edge models come with. The S7 Edge is 5.5 inches large and comes with a curved back design previously only seen on the Note 5. This curved back makes it easier to pick up off smooth surfaces like a table and equally makes it more comfortable to hold than the S6 Edge.Samsung, Galaxy S7 ,Galaxy S7 Edge, S7 Edge

Battery life: The S7 Edge comes with a 3,600mAh that’s significantly larger than the 2,600mAh battery in its predecessor. This bigger battery does make a noticeable difference in the S7 Edge as it comfortably lasts for a day on a single charge.

Camera: We took pictures on our Instagram page and website using the camera in the S7 Edge. With a 12 MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera, the S7 Edge creates sharp images even in low light conditions. The camera app also comes with a new feature called Motion photo. Motion photo allows you capture a few seconds of video before the image is captured. It however does not record any audio. Lest I forget, the 5MP selfie camera takes really sharp pictures too and also has a brighter and wider lens that’ll take more people in a group selfie.

Micro SD slot: People complained and Samsung listened. The Micro SD slot is back and it allows you expand internal storage up to 200GB.

Water proofing: The S7 and S7 Edge are both water resistant to a depth of about 1.5m for up to 30 minutes. Samsung integrated this water resistance feature into both devices by sealing all ports internally as against covering them with rubber caps (as was the case with the Samsung Galaxy S5)

Always On Display: The Samsung S7 and S7 Edge both come with an ‘always-on display’ feature. This feature allows you to see stuff like notification icons, date and time on your phone screen even when its asleep.

Top of the line specifications: Powering the new S7/S7 Edge is Samsung’s Exynos 8-core processor clocked at 2.6 GHz. The new devices also come with 4GB of RAM. And for all the game lovers, Samsung is taking gaming seriously with the S7 and Edge. The devices are the first to support the new Vulcan API which makes it future proof for the latest and most intense games. Record gaming sessions and take screenshots with Game Launcher for sharing, storing your downloaded games and setting up the gaming experience from the app to restrict alerts, record a game move/session, lock keys and minimize game.

The Shortcomings of the Galaxy S7 Edge

  1. Scratches easily (or not): While standard steel objects like a knife or a razor blade won’t scratch the S7 and S7 Edge – thanks to the Corning Gorilla Glass 4, other everyday items like sand, diamond jewellery, keys and the like, will leave tattoo ugly marks unto either device. The reason for this can best be explained using Mohr’s scale of mineral hardness. According to this scale, steel can’t scratch the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 because the glass is harder than it is, but sand and diamond for instance which are harder than the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 can scratch it. All I’m trying to say is that you shouldn’t be fooled into thinking the S7 Edge is completely scratch resistant. You will still need to get a good case or skin and screen guard for the device to better protect it from scratches.
  2. Very slippery: What did we expect right? The same glass finish that makes the S7 and S7 Edge beauties to behold, is also the same thing that makes you clutch the phone ever so tightly because it tends to feel like it can drop out of your hand or slip right off fabric at any second.
  3. Finger print problems: This is another problem you’ll have to deal with due to the glass finish of this device. It picks up finger prints easily and you’d find yourself having to clean away fingerprint smears regularly to keep the phone looking sharp and pretty.
  4. Pictures taken with the Live Motion feature of its camera app cannot be shared or downloaded to your PC and that’s just sad. I mean why would you let me take such a nice ‘GIF-like’ picture and not give me an opportunity to share it with others, especially in this age of memes? Not fair, Samsung. Not fair.
