Ekiti has reduced cost of Right of Way to N145 per meter

To encourage telecoms operators to improve their service coverage in the state, the government of Ekiti state has lowered the cost of right of way for telecoms infrastructures to N145.

The reduction represents about 97% drop from the previous cost of N4500 per meter. The government said its decision to slash the price stemmed from its interest to improve the coverage of its territory in telecommunications infrastructure.

With the new policy, the state governor, Kayode Fayemi, said telecom companies are being encouraged to deploy optic fiber in the state. He said the policy is part of reforms to the state’s business facilitation project.

The state government initiated the policy last year to improve the indices that will make Ekiti State an attractive destination for national and international investments in 5 years.

By adopting this new tariff, the State of Ekiti presents itself as the first in the country to comply with the passage charges approved by the National Executive Council (NEC) for broadband.

“Developed broadband connectivity across Ekiti State will improve the capacity of the Ekiti State government to increase economic prosperity; attract new businesses, increase employment, expand the reach of affordable, high-quality health care, enrich student learning with digital tools, and facilitate access to the digital market,” Fayemi said.
