The DStv Kenya new packages take over on 5 November 2026: Starter at KSh 750 a month, Select at KSh 1,500, Sports at KSh 3,000 and Ultimate at KSh 7,300. MultiChoice, the company behind DStv, says current subscribers do not need to do anything, because accounts on a changed package switch over automatically.
The short version
DStv Kenya’s new packages take over on 5 November, and three of the four are renamed versions of packages people already pay for. Here is what matters before your next renewal.
- The four DStv packages cost KSh 750, KSh 1,500, KSh 3,000 and KSh 7,300 a month from 5 November 2026.
- DStv Sports, the old Compact, is now the cheapest package with every Premier League and UEFA Champions League match.
- Going from Sports to Ultimate costs KSh 4,300 more a month, or KSh 51,600 a year, mainly for F1, MotoGP, Grand Slam tennis and golf.
- A new Swahili sports channel, SuperSport Swahili, starts on 5 November in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
- The downside: DStv’s own pages do not list the old prices, so check your last bill to see what you will actually save.
The upshot: if you pay for DStv only to watch football, the package you need now costs KSh 3,000 a month, and the jump to the top tier is a question of whether you watch motorsport, tennis or golf. DStv says the package refresh reaches most of its African markets on 5 November, so subscribers outside Kenya should expect their own versions, with prices set country by country.
DStv Kenya new packages and prices
These are the monthly prices and channel counts on the DStv Kenya packages page, checked on 27 October 2026. The old names come from MultiChoice’s announcement of the change on 26 October. The last column is our maths.
| New package | Replaces | Price a month | Channels | Cost per channel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DStv Starter | DStv Access | KSh 750 | 117+ | about KSh 6.4 |
| DStv Select | DStv Family | KSh 1,500 | 149+ | about KSh 10.1 |
| DStv Sports | DStv Compact | KSh 3,000 | 159+ | about KSh 18.9 |
| DStv Ultimate | DStv Premium | KSh 7,300 | 180+ | about KSh 40.6 |
In dollars, at the Central Bank of Kenya rate of KSh 129.96 to the dollar on 27 October 2026, the four packages cost about $5.77, $11.54, $23.08 and $56.17 a month.
Cost per channel is a rough guide, not a verdict. Nobody watches 180 channels. What you are really paying for at the top end is live sport.
What each package gets you
DStv Starter (KSh 750): MultiChoice says the old Access package gets 10 more channels and a new channel called SuperSport KICKOFF, which shows selected Premier League and Champions League matches, not all of them.
DStv Select (KSh 1,500): the replacement for Family. It is built around movies, local and international series and kids’ channels, including M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars and M-Net Legends, plus some live sport.
DStv Sports (KSh 3,000): the old Compact, now aimed at sports fans. MultiChoice says it has 17 sports channels, every Premier League match, every UEFA Champions League match, cricket that used to be on Premium only, selected club rugby, WWE and UFC, plus everything in Select.
DStv Ultimate (KSh 7,300): the old Premium. You get everything in Sports, plus Formula 1, MotoGP, Grand Slam tennis and major golf tournaments.
Which DStv package should you pick?
- You want every Premier League match: Sports at KSh 3,000 is the cheapest way to get them all. That is KSh 36,000 over a year.
- You watch F1, tennis or golf too: Ultimate costs KSh 4,300 more than Sports each month. Over a year that is KSh 51,600 extra, so it only makes sense if you watch those sports most weekends.
- Your house mostly watches films and series: Select at KSh 1,500 covers that. If you want more films, DStv sells an ADD Movies add-on for KSh 1,000 a month.
- You watch a big match now and then: Starter at KSh 750 gets selected matches through SuperSport KICKOFF, but you will miss games that are not on that channel.
Do current subscribers need to do anything?
No. DStv’s packages page says active customers do not need to act, and if your package changes, the switch happens automatically. From 5 November you can upgrade, downgrade or sign up through DStv’s self-service channels.
What DStv’s pages do not show is the old price list, so the saving for each person depends on what they paid before. When the Internet Archive saved DStv’s Kenya packages page in May 2026, it listed the top package at KSh 11,700 a month and another at KSh 4,200, the same figures Kenyan media reported for Premium and Compact. If those figures match your bill, Premium subscribers moving to Ultimate pay KSh 4,400 less a month, and Compact subscribers moving to Sports pay KSh 1,200 less. Check your own last payment before you count on it.
If you pay for DStv through M-Pesa, a renewal is also a good moment to check who sees your name and number when you pay in shops. Our guide to M-PESA Jumbe and payment privacy explains a new option for that.
SuperSport Swahili and the decoder offer
MultiChoice is also starting SuperSport Swahili, a 24-hour sports channel with Swahili commentary, on 5 November for DStv customers in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. It will carry the Premier League, UEFA competitions, La Liga, Serie A, athletics, UFC and WWE, along with local sport. MultiChoice has not said which packages include it.
There is also a decoder promotion from 2 November 2026 to 28 February 2027, with selected decoders and bundles at discounted prices. MultiChoice’s announcement does not give the promotional prices, so ask your dealer or check DStv’s site before you buy.
