ASUS ZenBook Flip S review

Asus recently released Asus ZenBook Flip S, a laptop that screams premium in its design and functionality. From its aluminium alloy, solid build, convertible nature, light weight to its 4K OLED display, you can’t help but love this stunning machine powered by Intel 11th gen processors.

Design

Before touching on the design, let’s do a quick dive into what is contained in the box. You find the laptop, a stylus pen, some paper work, USB type C power plug, USB type-A to Ethernet dongle and a USB type-C to headphone jack dongle.

The Flip S is made of premium materials packed in a slim, lightweight and compact form factor with an aluminium finish and solid build. On the left-hand side is the HDMI port, two USB type-C ports with support with Thunderbolt 4. On the right-hand side, there is the power button and USB-A port. There is no headphone jack but you don’t have to worry because you get a USB-C to headphone jack dongle in the pack.

Opening the lid, you get welcomed by a 13.3-inch OLED 4K Nano Edge touchscreen display with 3840 X 2160 resolution. There is a visible front camera 720p web camera at the top of the lid which can be used for video calling; however the quality of the front camera is about average but still works for your video conferencing needs.

The Laptop comes with a 360 degrees hinge which automatically makes the laptop a convertible, enabling you to use as a laptop, a tablet or even use in tent mode. Switching between laptop mode and tablet mode is genius as the keyboards automatically deactivates when the hinge rotates past 180 degrees so that working in tablet mode is not impaired.

The keyboard is compact, comfortable and decent keys which have a backlight to enable easy typing. There is also a Number pad 2.0 which integrates an illuminated LED numeric keyboard into the touchpad. This comes in very handy when entering data into an Excel sheet.

Display

The highlight and USP of the ZenBook FlipS  is the display. The display is a 13.3-inch 4K OLED screen with high screen resolution unlike the LCD panels found in many other high end laptops. Display colours are accurate and rich, deep black, sharp with great viewing angles.

The 4k OLED screen is way above average and it supports touch interaction using the stylus pen and fingers. You can comfortably binge your favourite movies and TV shows and be confident of the quality of the display. The display also supports HDR mode but this has to be turned on in the display settings.

Performance and battery

ASUS ZenBook Flip S delivers on performance and packs more power than what we expected. All thanks to the latest 11th Gen Intel Tiger Lake CPU. It comes with Core i7 with Xe graphics, alongside 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM making it very powerful to handle task better than other notebooks in its price range. The Flip S is great for work, gaming, graphics design and multitasking. You can open multiple tabs on chrome, stream shows on Netflix and perform other task all at the same time without any challenge.

The ASUS ZenBook Flip S is fitted with a 67Whr battery, it is also stamped with the EVO badge which means the notebook is expected to deliver at least 10 hours of battery life according to some standard test. However, the reality is different as you get an average of four hours battery life depending on the use and the screen resolution selected. The battery does have fast charging capability and charges from zero to full charge in just a little above an hour.

Verdict

If you are a Windows laptop fan and would love a crispy sharp and vibrant screen, decent battery life and powerful performance to aid your multitasking demands, then the ASUS ZenBook Flip S is your choice
