2 Nigerian Startups, 5 Other African Startups Win Annual Pitch AgriHack Competition

Seven African Startups, including Nigeria’s Trackball Global Technologies and Foodlocker have been named winners of the annual Pitch AgriHack Competition.

Trackball Global Technologies won the EUR5,000 (US$5,500) public choice award while the EUR10,000 (US$11,000) Data Analytics Award went to Foodlocker.

The annual Pitch AgriHack competition is organized by CTA to support young agricultural entrepreneurs in building successful businesses and encourage innovation in the agricultural sector.

From a selected pool of 326 applicants, twenty-two startups were named finalists. The startups underwent training through a bootcamp process before pitching their innovations to potential investors and a judging panel at the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) in Accra, Ghana.

The innovarange from software to track the production of milk from farm-to-market, to a mobile-based web application to improve productivity, to low cost handheld devices to detect animal diseases.

The other winners include Ghana’s Profish (EUR7,500), Kenya’s Savanna Circuit Tech (EUR5,000), Uganda’s Jaguza (EUR15,000), Kenya’s Arinifu (EUR12,500), and Ghana’s TechShelta (EUR5,000).
