Walmart says it is pulling ads from X

“We aren’t advertising on X as we’ve found other platforms to better reach our customers,” a Walmart spokesperson told reporters.

Retail giant Walmart has become the latest big brand to pull its advertising from social media platform X, citing concerns about the platform’s content moderation policies.

“We aren’t advertising on X as we’ve found other platforms to better reach our customers,” a Walmart spokesperson told reporters.

The move follows similar decisions by several other high-profile brands, including General Motors, Pfizer, and Unilever who have expressed concerns about how CEO Elon Musk is handling the platform.

X has been under increasing scrutiny for its content moderation practices since Elon Musk acquired the platform in 2022.

While Musk does not appear fazed by any of this, telling companies who threatened to stop placing ads on X earlier this week to “go f*** yourself,” the move by Walmart may motivate other brands to follow their lead.

Whether this prompts platforms like X to strengthen their content moderation rules to keep advertisers on board remains uncertain.
