Twitter (secretly) removes background images and notifications timelines

Social micro blogging platform, Twitter has secretly removed background images from the home and notifications timelines on web for all its users.

“Now, background images are only available where logged-in users will see them publicly (Tweet pages, list pages and collections pages). You can find help centre content about customising your design and where it’s visible on Twitter,” the company said.

The situation is the same for other people’s profiles on your timeline. The only way you can see backgrounds now is if you click on a list and collection page (but how many of us actually check those out) or an individual tweet.

Many users in Nigeria began noticing this from Monday although Twitter initially did not announce it would be doing this, so many were left puzzled as to whether this was a fault or a permanent change on the social network’s part.

Going to your design settings doesn’t help either, your background will pop back up, but as soon as you log out or close the page and come back, it’s gone again.
