Twitter Blue subscription increased to $11 effective next month as tweet source reappears

Twitter for web users who are subscribed to Twitter Blue will still be able to pay the initial $8/month subscription fee.

Twitter Blue is increasing its subscription fee from $8 to $11 and this hike will be effective from February 2023. While the company had indicated in 2022 that Twitter for iOS users were the only ones who would need to fork out the extra $3 for the app, some Blue subscribers have begun receiving messages about the new $11 price.

In November of last year, Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, claimed that Apple was threatening to remove the Twitter app from the App Store following his acquisition of the platform. Musk has also been vocal in criticizing Twitter for the fees they extract from developers of third-party apps.

While Musk’s claims were not officially verified, Twitter has unceremoniously resumed indicating the source of tweets on its platform via “Twitter for iPhone,” “Twitter for Android,” etc.

The return of the “Twitter for…” feature could be the company’s way of differentiating or specifying users who will be paying the new fee. Twitter for web users who are subscribed to Blue will still be able to pay $8/month.

Though currently available only on web/iPhone in the US, UK, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, Twitter Blue gives users a verified checkmark, access to exclusive features and prioritized rankings on the app.
