The top 10 most popular cryptocurrencies in the world. Number 2 will shock you!

Crypto experts analyzed search volumes of diverse cryptocurrencies to see which ones have been most popular worldwide this year.

A new study has found that Bitcoin is the most popular cryptocurrency in the world for 2023. It is followed by Terra Luna, Shiba Inu, Ethereum, and Flow.

The study which was carried out by crypto experts at Bitcoinsentralen.no analyzed average search volumes from the past several months to see which cryptocurrencies have been most popular worldwide this year.

Leading the pack, Bitcoin is the oldest and most popular cryptocurrency and has been searched over 11million times on the internet. Bitcoin was released in 2009 and the identity of its creators remains unknown.

Terra Luna is the second most popular cryptocurrency which gained popularity from its connection to the Terra blockchain. Developed by Terraform Labs which was founded by Do Kwon and Daniel Shin, Terra Luna has seen 2.4million searches a month this year from around the world.

Shiba Inu, the first meme coin comes in a close third having gained popularity due to its association with Dogecoin. Searched over 1.7million times monthly, the price of Shiba Inu crypto has fluctuated since its introduction, specifically in 2021, with a 240% value surge.

Ethereum is 4th with an average worldwide search of 1.4million queries this year alone. Its founder, Vitalik Buterin, has also become a notable cryptocurrency influencer. Ethereum is also popular for enabling developers build decentralized applications.

Relatively new crypto, Flow is the 5th most searched cryptocurrency and it is used for many cryptocurrency gaming titles and apps. Created in April 2023, Flow has seen 1,190,000 searches each month on average in 2023.

Dogecoin, another meme coin which gained prominence after Elon Musk talked, tweeted and incorporated it with X has not performed impressively, coming sixth place with 1,080,000 searches a month.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson for Bitcoinsentralen.no said: “From these findings, it’s evident that Bitcoin remains king. However, what is surprising is how diverse this list is, with some of the most previously valuable cryptocurrencies, like Dogecoin not even making the top five.”

“What’s also interesting is the fact there is a variety of old and new cryptocurrencies, showing just how quickly the market can change.”
