Nigeria’s highest paid Windows Game developer, Abiola Olaniran, speaks to Channel9 on the use of Indigenous characters in his game applications and his software company.
Abiola Olanira is a software developer who runs the Games Sole company. He started out as a Microsoft student partner, learning from the evangelist, Shina Oyetosho, who discovered him at a time when window phones were coming to Nigeria, believed in his potentials and chose to groom him.
In 2010, Abiola and his team represented Nigeria at the Imagine cup final for an outstanding innovation which he said was borne out of the poor education which he had in school. The app was a solution for students to have access to a virtual class room. In his interview with Channel 9, Abiola did say that the app was created to provide students an opportunity to learn from a teacher in another school who was better than the one that they had. This was to give students a plethora of knowledge from different tutors.
Abiola developed interest for softwares at age 15 when he developed his first code. He went on to study Computer Science and Mathematics in college which must have contributed to the broadening of his knowledge and the access to the information that he had in becoming a software expert today. He has since developed 35 game applications which is deployed on windows. One of which he shows off in this interview, the Gidi run. In Abiola’s words, the game uses characters that Nigerians are very familiar with and some situations that are peculiar with living in Lagos.
Before the interview is a short clip from Microsoft on the achievements and historical journey of Abiola- one that they are clearly proud of. To Microsoft, Abiola represents the Africa that we ought to portray. Like he said, developing advanced software codes does not imply that you need to live in a developed country as he has proved that idea to be a myth.
From the video, it is clear that the entire Microsoft team is proud to be associated with this software guru as the entire Africa is proud of his achievements. Abiola is not just an entrepreneur but has gone beyond to expand his company, employing many to work with him. In the video, he speaks more on game coding and the requirements for any one who wishes to create game codes and become a software genius.
