The best tech gifts under $50 solve one small, daily annoyance: lost keys, a dead phone, a lamp left on. We picked six that do that, each $40 or less at Best Buy when we checked on Oct. 19, 2026, and we list what else the person might need to buy, because a cheap gift that needs a subscription is not that cheap.

The short version

These six gifts cost $40 or less each and fix a real everyday problem. Two of them need something extra to work well, which we flag below.

  1. The Logitech Pebble Mouse 2 is the cheapest pick at $24.99, and one AA battery lasts up to 24 months.
  2. The Apple AirTag (2nd generation) costs $29, but it only works with an iPhone or iPad and needs a holder to go on keys.
  3. The TP-Link Tapo 2-pack gives you two Matter smart plugs for $29.99, with no subscription.
  4. The Blink Mini 2K+ costs $39.99, but alerts and saved clips need a paid Blink plan or a storage hub.
  5. Prices were checked at Best Buy on Oct. 19, 2026, and the JBL Go 5 only fits the budget while its $39.95 sale lasts.

We have not tested every pick ourselves. These picks are based on each maker’s specs, patterns in owner reviews, and prices and stock checked at Best Buy on Oct. 19, 2026.

Gifts in this price range get bought in a hurry and returned in January. So for each one, we asked a simple question: will the person still be using it in March?

For the person who is always looking for their keys: Apple AirTag (2nd generation)

Price at Best Buy: $29, checked Oct. 19, 2026.

Why we picked it: The new AirTag finds things from farther away than the first one. Apple says Precision Finding, the arrows that point you to your keys, now works up to 50% farther, and the speaker is 50% louder. The battery is a regular coin cell your recipient can swap at home, and there is no subscription.

The downside: It only works with an iPhone or iPad on the latest software, and it has no hole for a key ring, so plan on a holder too. Apple’s own key ring costs $35, more than the tag.

Skip if: the person you are buying for uses an Android phone.

For the laptop worker who hates trackpads: Logitech Pebble Mouse 2 M350s

Price at Best Buy: $24.99, checked Oct. 19, 2026.

Why we picked it: It is flat enough to slide into a laptop bag, its clicks are quiet enough for a shared office, and one AA battery lasts up to 24 months, by Logitech’s count. A button underneath switches it between three devices, so it can move from a work laptop to a tablet.

The downside: It connects by Bluetooth only, with no USB receiver in the box, and its small, flat shape can feel cramped in large hands.

Skip if: their computer is old enough not to have Bluetooth.

For the commuter whose phone dies by 4 p.m.: Anker Zolo Power Bank 10K, 30W

Price at Best Buy: $29.99, checked Oct. 19, 2026.

Why we picked it: It packs a 10,000mAh battery with a 30-watt USB-C port, and Anker says it charges itself to 50% in about 41 minutes. It uses lithium iron phosphate cells, and a built-in strap means it hangs off a bag instead of getting lost in one.

The downside: There is no cable built in, and when two devices charge at once the total output drops to 18 watts.

Skip if: they want to charge a laptop. Look for 45 watts or more for that.

Price at Best Buy: $29.99, checked Oct. 19, 2026.

Why we picked it: Two plugs for about $15 each turn any lamp, fan or coffee maker into something you can schedule or switch off from a phone. Because they support Matter, a shared smart home standard, they work with Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri, so you do not need to know which one the recipient uses.

The downside: They do not track how much power a device uses, and they only connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.

Skip if: the home has no Wi-Fi, or the person already runs a smart home with a different plug brand.

TP-Link Tapo Smart Wi-Fi Plug Mini with Matter (TP15), 2-pack · paid link

Price at Best Buy: $39.99, checked Oct. 19, 2026.

Why we picked it: It is a small plug-in camera that records up to 2K video with a wide 138-degree view. Two-way talk is free, so you can tell the dog to get off the couch.

The downside: Person and vehicle alerts and saved clips need a paid Blink subscription or a separate storage hub, so without one it is mostly a live-view camera. Some owners report it drops off mesh Wi-Fi.

Skip if: they do not want another monthly bill. Ask first whether they already pay for Blink.

For music in the shower or at the beach: JBL Go 5

Price at Best Buy: $39.95 on sale (regular price $54.95), checked Oct. 19, 2026.

Why we picked it: It is rated IP68, so it survives water and dust, and JBL says it is drop-proof. It can pair with a second speaker for stereo, and it plays for up to 8 hours, plus about 2 more with JBL’s Playtime Boost setting.

The downside: Eight hours is short for a speaker, and there is no USB-C cable in the box.

Skip if: the sale has ended when you check. At $54.95 it is over this guide’s budget.

How we picked these tech gifts

We started with gifts that fix a problem people have every day, then dropped anything over $50 at Best Buy, anything sold only by outside sellers, and anything replaced by a newer model in the last few months. We checked each maker’s spec page, read recent owner reviews for repeat complaints, and checked the US Consumer Product Safety Commission recall list for the battery-powered picks. None of our picks had a recall listed when we checked.

A few popular gifts did not make it. Amazon’s Echo Pop was no longer sold new at Best Buy, and under $50 we could not find big-brand earbuds sold by Best Buy itself.

When to buy

Prices on small gadgets move around Black Friday, Nov. 27, but most of these already sit near their usual price. If you see a pick at the price listed here, there is little reason to wait.
