Stir Kinetic Desk: A Smart Desk for Improving Health and Work Performance

Technology is really shaping the world, perhaps faster than expected. Smartphones have been around for some time now and we keep having more smart devices rolling in. We have also seen smart watches, smart TVs, smart pen, smart cooker, smart chair, smart desk, smart….. and everything is going smart.

Stir Kinetic desk

The Stir Kinetic desk is a convertible desk that can function as both the traditional desk and a standing desk. The presence of a motor allows it to raise and lower itself and can also be programmed to move up and down slightly, at the exact speed of a resting human heartbeat, causing it to appear to take a gentle breath to remind the user to change their position.

Stir Kinetic desk is a luxury piece of office furniture that softly pushes you to stand after sitting for a long time. It has an infra red sensor that basically sense your presence when you step up to the desk, when you sit down, stand up, keep track of how long you have doing each activity. It can also tell how much calories you are burning while you are sitting and standing.

Here is how it works:

  • The desk has a built-in touchscreen to control and track movement, and can tell users exactly how many calories they burn by standing for part of their working day.
  • Motors allow it to transform from a standing to a seated desk in seconds.
  • It also has compartments containing power points and USB ports for charging phones, to keep cables hidden.
  • To move between sitting and standing positions, owner’s simply double-tap on the screen.
  • The desk can learn user’s preferences over time and suggest the best seating position

This smart desk technology is aimed at increasing productivity and improving health of staff at work. ‘Our goal is to increase movement, productivity, health, and inspiration at work by leveraging cutting-edge health tracking software and devices,’ said Stir CEO JP Labrosse

The Stir Kinect desk was created by a team of ex-Apple and Disney engineers.  JP Labrosse, founder and CEO of Stir was among the team who created the iPod at Apple

Labrosse also said, ‘Our goal with the Stir Kinetic Desk it to promote a working life infused with movement, leading to better health and improved focus.’
