Samsung excites with new range of digital imaging devices

Leader in digital media and digital convergence technologies, Samsung Electronics West Africa, has unveiled its line-up of high-performance Smart Cameras featuring wireless sharing connectivity and compatibility with a broad range of Android and iOS devices. According to Samsung, the Smart Cameras embody style and functionality, and will raise the bar for compact system cameras all over the world. The products were unveiled at an elaborate event in Ikeja, Lagos on Friday, June 21, 2013.

Key among the products on display was the award-winning Smart Camera NX300, Samsung’s flagship model in its successful NX Series. The NX300 boasts outstanding imaging performance, with its 20.3 Megapixel sensor which is capable of capturing high-quality images with sharp, life-like colours that are clear in all lighting conditions. It possesses a wide ISO range of 100-25600, making it twice as sensitive to light as the previous model.

The NX300 features Dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wi-Fi support that enables users connect faster and with more stability to wireless networks. A dedicated Direct Link hot key lets users wirelessly send images to mobile phones, tablets, PCs or Smart HDTVs, directly from the camera. The device lets users shoot continuously at an ultra-fast rate of 8.6 frames per second while its advanced hybrid autofocus system brings clarity to fast moving objects. The camera comes with a 3.31” AMOLED screen and shutter speed of 1/6000s, the fastest in its class. Also announced at the event was the new NX45mm F1.8 2D/3D lens, the first one-lens 3D system capable of capturing both still images and full HD movies in perfect 3D quality when combined with the Smart Camera NX300.

Samsung is currently organizing a photo challenge with the NX300 on its website where photographers across the country can showcase their skills with the amazing device.

Samsung also announced the “soon to be launched” Galaxy S4 Zoom, a revolutionary new product that, according to Samsung, delivers on the company’s mission to create a single device that fulfills the role of both an industry leading smartphone and a high-end compact camera. A part of the Galaxy S4 family, the device combines 10x Optical Zoom, 16 Megapixel CMOS Sensor and Xenon Flash with the very latest Samsung Galaxy S4 technology, setting new standards for mobile photography.

Speaking at the event, Director of Hand Held Devices, Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr. Emmanouil Revmatas, said the NX300 and Galaxy S4 Zoom will set the benchmark for how digital imaging devices can turn daily routine into unforgettable moments, with their unrivaled smart functions.

“Across the world today, the ability to take professional photos and to customize communications has become a critical consideration for many individuals when choosing an imaging device. More and more individuals are looking for the twin features of enhanced functionality of sharing and editing on their devices and also to tell the world about it. It is for this reason that we have bridged the gap in the market through our new range of Digital Imaging devices, offering consumers the ability to do just this; take photos, customize their communications and obtain instant gratification through the sharing of experiences wherever they are,” he said.

Revmatas added that Samsung’s new digital imaging line-up were developed by harnessing core engineering technologies to offer superior image capturing while maximizing simplicity and ensuring that users are just one touch away from seamless connectivity.

On his part, Product Manager, Digital Imaging for Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr. Taiwo Adediran said, “Since its launch in 2010, the Samsung NX System has become synonymous with innovation and design, making it the best digital imaging technology available to everyone without compromising on style. The NX300 builds even further on this illustrious heritage. Not only does it deliver incredible speed and accuracy through advanced photographic features, but it is truly built around the user with its modern retro design and upgraded Smart Camera functionality – making shooting and sharing both easy and seamless. We are also very proud to introduce the first one-lens 3D system alongside the NX300, opening up a whole new world of 3D photography and video recording.”

Speaking of the Galaxy S4 zoom, Marketing Manager, Hand Held Devices, Ms. Olajumoke Okikiolu, said the device is a portal to a new visual communication era and shifts accepted standards in communication. “With the growth of social networking and the prevalence of instant messaging and communication, people today communicate faster than words can manage. There is an increasing need to articulate our experiences through pictures and videos and the Galaxy S4 Zoom has been created to lead the way in this new era of voice and visual communication,” she explained.

Samsung also introduced its built for Africa (BFA) campaign with focus on Wigshot, a fun app that connects with its African consumers who love to be creative with the images they share. The Wigshot feature lets consumers choose from over 50 various wigs styles from the Samsung smart camera and stylishly fits them to taste on subjects captured with the device. Users can share their images directly from the camera using the Samsung Smart Camera app which is available for free on Google Play.
