Samsung aims to double turnover in Africa in 5 years

Tech giant Samsung has announced it plans to double its turnover in Africa over the next five years. This was disclosed by Sung Yoon, Samsung’s head of sales in Africa. When this is achieved, Africa will be responsible for 20% of the company’s global mobile phone sales.

To achieve this, Yoon said the company will be increasing the number of its outlets in Africa.

“These points will allow the group to more easily sell its main products that are mobile phones and especially TVs,” Yoon suggested.

Presently, Samsung is responsible for 50% of the mobile phones in Africa but the company is leaving no stone unturned to secure the future

“We think Africa will be very important in the future,” said Sung Yoon. “The rise of digital television channels and an ever-increasing taste for multi-purpose phones is creating a strong demand for more sophisticated devices.”

Although Samsung has outlasted Nokia, Blackberry and Ericsson in the mobile ecosystem of Africa, the company is facing fierce competition from manufacturers from China and other Asian countries; its also market share is also being targeted by mobile phone manufacturers from India.

While current ones are consolidating on their strength to expand, new mobile phones are regularly emerging and are offering customers new options that may not be better than Samsung’s offerings – but are cheaper.
