Project Wing, Google’s drone delivery system, has been secretly developed in the Australian outback for two years. The product of the company’s research lab would be going up against Amazon.com and Domino Pizza who have already tested delivery drones. Domino Pizza tested their drones in 2013 using them to deliver pies.
Google has officially announced they are developing a drone system and chose Australia as a base in order to avoid the strict “remotely piloted aircraft” polices in America where commercial drone use has been banned.
Google released a video on YouTube stating that they are “developing a delivery system that uses self-flying vehicles”. The video reveals that Google has had successes in delivering water and cattle vaccines to farmers, first aid kits and even candy bars using the drones.
“We’re only just beginning to develop the technology to make a safe delivery system possible, but we think that there’s tremendous potential to transport goods more quickly, safely and efficiently,” Google expressly stated on YouTube.
Google started developing drones since 2011 and believe it would ‘’take years o=to develop a service with multiple vehicles flying multiple deliveries per day’’
