Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, is now live.
The chatbot which was previously only accessible to a select group of users is now available to X Premium users for $16 a month.
According to Bloomberg’s Shirin Ghafarry, Grok may be a bigger threat to its competition than they anticipated.
In her review, Ghaffary submits that Grok has outperformed other chatbots, including Google Bard and ChatGPT, which runs on the paid GPT-4 model. Grok was able to correctly answer questions about the Israel-Hamas war and OpenAI’s licensing deals with publishers, citing sources, though questionable, she said. It was also the only chatbot to correctly say Saudi Arabia had agreed to new goals at the recent COP28 climate summit.
Elsewhere, Youtubers Conor Grennan and Fireship seemed impressed by the bot and its approach to answering questions. Grennan, a self acclaimed left winger, applauded Grok for not being as unabashed in its response to far-left queries as he had expected while Fireship applauded the AI for being more based or literally contextual in answering specific questions.
The AI bot also has different modes a user can toggle depending on the tone you are going for; Fun mode and Regular mode.
Grok’s biggest advantage appears to be its ability to pull social media posts from X’s API which has one of the largest databases of real-time information at the moment.
While ChatGPT premium and Bard (now enabled with Gemini) boast of their access to real time data as well, Grok appears to have even more accurate real time data, particularly as it feeds from activities on X.
This may be the most important feature Grok has which allows it stay up-to-date on current events and provide more accurate answers to users’ questions compared to its competition.
