How to Prevent Data Corruption on your PC

Data corruption is basically a common system error or bug that occur due to loss of data or improper written code. In other word you can say; data corruption is the loss of computer data caused by human, hardware and software. It basically happens due to changes in the original code. Listed below are some common symptoms of data corruption,

  • Disk hangs or performs slow
  • File error – “invalid file format”
  • File permissions and attributes are changed
  • Files are renamed with gibberish characters
  • Files and folders are displaced or lost
  • Computer regularly crashes and hangs without obvious reasons
  • Disk actions seem to be very busy even there is no much things going on

Data corruption can be caused by many factors and occurrences such as

Bad program – Bad program is a common reason for data corruption. This happens due to improper shut down or restart of the system or you can say; unknowingly switching-off or restarting the system because of some reason. Sometime intentionally you switch-off the system when you are in hurry or sometime unintentionally it happens due to power failure. Sometimes, your system errors can freeze your machine, in such cases all you have to do is to restart your computer manually by pressing power button. Sometimes, file corruption occurs as a result of incomplete source code of a file.

Malware Infection – Data corruption occurs due to Malware infection too. Malware is basically a software application created to present exact loss to a system. Malware occurs due to excess work load or excess data coming from the internet. When a virus infects the system, it slows down and corrupts the opened data of an application/ system.

Poor Software and Hardware – Data corruption also occurs from software and hardware issues. Some software comes with bug and when we use them, the whole system hangs and data gets corrupt. Another popular cause of data corruption  is Hardware failures including such as hard drive failures, bad RAM etc.

Safe measures to preventing data corruption are:

Take a Complete Backup and use it Often – Taking a complete backup of all essential data is important to prevent your data from hard drive failure or other problems. It’s a good habit because we also don’t know when a PC will hang or shut down due to heavy work load and we can loss the data. Hard drives or any other storage media are very useful and sensitive and can fail at some point. We never get to know the internal parts of a hard drive fails and the hard drive stops working. Therefore  taking a backup of all data is the best solution to prevent the loss of your files.

Make use of reliable Antivirus Software and always update it – Antivirus is very useful for system when you share applications between two system or disk, downloading software and add-ins from Internet, or opening e-mail attachments. Antivirus scans the above listed activities before placing the files into the computer. It is very much important for computer uses internet to download stuffs maximum number of time.

Use security mechanism to protect your data – Any file, document and application data can be protected by using passwords, data encryption, and physical security. Any hardware and software can be protected using passwords. You can keep Power On Password to your computer before anyone start your computer.

Regularly troubleshoot the application and system issue – Try to resolve system and application issues in the initial stage, otherwise that issues can never be resolved and can create problem for system and application. The operating system, on which your application is running, provides many troubleshooting techniques which can be helpful in resolving System or application issue running on the system. Or, you can take the help of internet too, surely you will get many ideas.

My Conclusion Your system and application data is very, very important. As you heard; prevention is better than cure, the same thing is with system and application data too; try to prevent them before losing everything and enjoy your work.
