Nigeria’s Team Humane Qualifies for Microsoft Imagine Cup World Finals

Nigeria’s Team Humane has qualified for the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2016 World Finals. The team of four students from the Obafemi Awolowo University made it to this year’s finals after emerging as winners in the MENA semi-finals.

Their solution is a platform that makes the Windows Smart Phone easily accessible to the visually impaired. The device called Humane Handle has three buttons and interacts with apps installed on a device using Bluetooth. With it a visually impaired person can navigate through various apps installed on a phone using the handle and an integrated voice navigation system.

According to a blog post by Pablo Veramendi, Imagine Cup Competition Manager, a total of 35 teams will be heading to Seattle for the World Finals on July 26 – 29. All 35 teams will be competing for a chance to win $50,000 as the winner in their respective categories, while one team will go on to win the Imagine Cup and the grand prize, a private mentoring session with Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella.
