Nigeria’s Bus-Hailing Platform, Plentywaka Announces Selection into the Techstars Toronto Program, Launches Interstate Service

Plentywaka, Nigeria’s first bus-hailing app announces that it has been selected for investment by Techstars, launched its Interstate travel service where commuters can now purchase bus tickets from a variety of bus travel companies using the Plentywaka mobile App, and reached 300,000 riders.

With the new investment from the largest global accelerator in the world, Techstars, and selection into the Techstars Toronto Program alongside 9 other startups, Plentywaka would be allowed access to a world-class network of entrepreneurs and investors with the opportunity to expand its services globally starting from Canada.

According to a statement on its website “This huge announcement is a reflection on how much of an impact we have made over the last 18months of moving 300,000+ commuters through their daily commute across three states in Nigeria. In the year 2020, we announced a seed funding of $300,000 from Microtraction, Niche Capital, and EMFATO and a partnership with Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing, Nigeria’s first indigenous automotive manufacturer.”

In the words of its Co-Founder and CEO, Onyeka Akumah, “We are very excited about this new investment to partner with Techstars. This is the second time a startup I founded will go through a Techstars accelerator program and we are truly happy they have believed in our ability again to execute. The Plentywaka team will join the Techstars Toronto program to gain further funding, mentorship, and access to a rich network of entrepreneurs and experts in the travel industry. This will also see us expanding globally to other countries, starting with a city in Canada on or before the fourth quarter of 2021.”

Sunil Sharma Managing Director, Techstars Toronto also said “Our only goal is to leverage the broader ecosystem to support and grow these incredible companies. Techstars is the worldwide network that helps entrepreneurs succeed, and strong partners and mentors help make this happen.”

Also, as part of its commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians by simplifying the way people move, the Plentywaka City to city service was created. With the new service, commuters get the luxury of purchasing the best bus travel ticket deals while choosing from a variety of bus transportation companies listed on the Plentywaka mobile app.

Plentywaka, on its website, states that “To kickstart this, we have partnered with Libra Motors, one of the top bus travel companies in Nigeria, and 4 other players with a combined capacity of 300+ buses, moving Nigerians across 100 routes in Nigeria. With this partnership, commuters can now buy tickets to travel to their favorite cities all with the Plentywaka City-to-City service.”

With the new product added to the Plentywaka mobile app, commuters get the opportunity to use the In-City bus service for their daily commute and the City-to-City bus service to buy tickets for longer interstate travels. They also get access to;

  • The best bus travel deals.
  • Special discount during festive seasons.
  • A variety of bus travel companies to choose from.
  • Ability to compare and choose the best prices.
  • Option to book, and pay before the travel time.
  • A chance to travel cash-less.

This has made booking for bus travel a whole lot easier, convenient and comfortable.
