Nearpays wins $10,000 fintech prize at GITEX Africa

Nearpays Technology Limited, a Nigerian fintech startup, has won the much coveted Fintech prize at GITEX AFRICA 2023.

The inaugural edition of GITEX AFRICA Tech Conference was held from 31st May to 2nd June 2023, at Place Bab Jdid, BdAl Yarmouk, in Marrakech, Morocco.

Part of the events of the conference is the GITEX AFRICA Supernova Challenge; a pitch competition for entrepreneurs displaying ground breaking innovations and highlighting their value before the whole world.

It covers 5 categories including Cybersecurity, Health Tech, AI and Digital Cities, Fintech and Blockchain, and Sustainability and Agritech.

With a total of $100,000 in prizes, each category winner gets $10,000 and the overall winner of the challenge gets $50,000.

Nearpays won in the Fintech and Blockchain category.

Founder of the company, Tundra Daniyan, talking about the win, said he was surprised but he was also determined to win.

“I came with the intention to win all the way from Nigeria. I was determined; I was ready. It was a surprise, but I was also very determined to win.” Daniyan also pointed out what this victory means to all Nigerian Startups. He said: “I’m super excited that it brings opportunities for start-ups in Nigeria, and we all have access to a better future. It shows that we can get to the top with the right platform. This means more work.”

Based in Abuja Nigeria, Nearpays is all about making the process of online payments  seamless, simplified and with no extra cost. It is a full service financial platform that acts as an end-to-end financial service.

Nearpays gets a cash prize of #10,000 and free all expense paid trip to GITEX Global, which is coming up in October, hosted by the Dubai World Trade Center in the UAE.

Daniyan says that the price money will be used towards the process of getting its card payment system license, which costs about $15,000.
