Music streaming platforms should beware of TikTok

Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music might soon have a new contender coming from TikTok for the mucic streaming crown.
TikTok

Since its astronomic rise to fame, TikTok has redefined a number of industry norms. In the business of content creation, it has overthrown the likes of YouTube and Instagram to become the king of short-form video content. Now, the Byte Dance subsidiary plans to take on the global music streaming industry.

If you are a core TikTok user, then you will attest to the fact that you discovered certain songs via the platform. Content creators using the social media application services often make songs trend by creating videos using them. These songs then grow in popularity across the platform and even off the platform as the videos often make their way to other social media applications.

So, when word got out that TikTok was planning on fully entering the music streaming industry, it did not come as. surprise.

According to Business Insider, Byte Dance has already filed a trademark in this respect. Just like other music streaming platforms, the coming TikTok Music will offer users the opportunity to subscribe and stream music online. The good news is that this isn’t Byte Dance’s first shot at a music streaming application.

The company already has an application that is available in select regions for music streaming. This application is called Resso, Byte Dance can take its experience from this platform and make this coming music streaming platform a hit. Like we said earlier, there will be massive gains, but also fierce competition as well.

Other streaming applications like Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, etc, need to protect their crown. YouTube Shorts is a perfect example of the power and influence TikTok wields in the short-form video platform industry. Instagram also has some stories to share about how Byte Dance has taken over its Reels business. So, we expect more competition in the music streaming industry and more streaming options for users once Byte Dance launches its streaming platform.
