Jovago reveals Nigeria’s top five most searched cities

Online hotel booking platform Jovago has revealed the top 5 cities that its customers are searching for online. In its recently released Intelligence Report Nigeria, Jovago said more than 60% of searches on its platform are for hotels in Lagos.

This is followed by Abuja (18.60%), Port Harcourt (7.33%), Ibadan (7.27%) and Calabar (5.30%).

Jovago said Demand for luxury hotel rooms in Nigeria is increasing mainly in the political capital Abuja and the commercial hub Lagos. It added that Nigeria has the largest hotel development projects in Africa while the cities of Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Enugu, Abeokuta and Kano serve large number of customers due to unique hotel facilities.

It also predicted that business and leisure travels are expected to grow by more than ₦1.4 trillion annually.

“Africa’s economy is growing a healthy rate of 7 percent per annum and this is good for business because with a better economy, there is higher capital available for leisure and business travel. So it is expected that the trajectory for the hospitality sector will rise with the economy,” said Marek Zmysłowski, Managing Director, Jovago Nigeria.

“The Nigerian online space, is also going through this phase especially in underserved regions separate from the major cities but Jovago has begun its role in driving awareness for these parts of the country and the outlook is positive for us.”
