Google’s Gemini now restricts answers to election-related queries globally

Google has reportedly begun to limit searches on Gemini that mention elections in any market globally where elections are happening. The upgrade has already gone live in the United States and is starting to roll out in all of the major countries hosting elections in the upcoming months, including India.

You will need to be in a country where there are no elections, according to TechCrunch, if you plan on asking Gemini a question regarding an impending election.

In a blog post related to the move in India. Google said “Out of an abundance of caution on such an important topic, we have begun to roll out restrictions on the types of election-related queries for which Gemini will return responses. We take our responsibility for providing high-quality information for these types of queries seriously, and are continuously working to improve our protections.”

This pre-programmed response appears in response to questions about political parties, candidates, and politicians: “I’m still learning how to answer this question. In the meantime, try Google Search.”

Google halted Gemini’s ability to create images of people last month as well, citing historical inaccuracies. The company then promised to re-release an enhanced version soon to fix the problems.
