Entries for the Etisalat Prize for Innovation award are still open

Entries for the 2015 edition of the Etisalat Prize for Innovation award are still open to startups and entrepreneurs with innovative product and ideas. Etisalat, the fastest growing telecommunications company in Nigeria, plans to reward innovative product, service or idea that positively impacts the growing mobile individuals in Nigeria.

The competition which was launched in 2012 is awarded in two categories with the aim of encouraging and celebrating valuable innovation in the Nigerian market. The categories include a N5,000,000 (Five million naira) award for the most innovative product or service launched in the last 12 months and a second, a N2,000,000 (Two million naira) award for the most innovative idea.

In 2014, Anthony Oniwon, the developer of an examination preparatory program for JAMB, Exammate won the first prize of $25,000 for the most innovative product or service while the developer of an Interactive Media Interface Design (IMID), a remote communication interface for GPRS enabled pre-paid meters, Abdulganiyu Onabanjo won the second prize of $10,000 for the most innovative idea.

Chief Executive Officer, Etisalat Nigeria, Matthew Willsher while announcing the commencement of the 2015 competition said that the competition is a reflection of the character of Etisalat aimed at promoting and nurturing talent. He also added that, ’’Our core business is to develop innovative initiatives, products and services and we recognise the importance of broadband in different sectors of the economy including, education and business.’’

All entries can be submitted at www.etisalat.com.ng/innovation till the 3rd August 2015 and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Lagos in October 2015.
