Elon Musk has announced Linda Yaccarino as Twitter CEO

It is not clear why Yaccarino was handpicked to be the new CEO of Twitter but her public support for Musk’s free speech campaign may have something to do with it.

Controversial CEO of Twitter and Tesla, Elon Musk has announced a new CEO at Twitter after first insinuating it was a foolish thing to lead the company.

In an earlier tweet, Musk said, “Excited to announce that I’ve hired a new CEO for X or Twitter. She will be starting in about 6 weeks! My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & system operations.”

Confirming that, Musk posted a new tweet confirming NBC Universal’s global head of advertising, Linda Yaccarino as the new boss at Twitter. Musk said, “I am excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter,” adding that Yaccarino will focus primarily on business operations, while he focuses on product design & new technology. “Looking forward to working with Linda to transform this platform into X, the everything app,” Musk tweeted.

Before being announced as Twitter CEO, Yaccarino had worked at NBC Universal for over 10years and is recognized for her involvement in launching the NBCU’s streaming service, Peacock. It is not clear why Yaccarino was handpicked to be the new CEO of Twitter because there isn’t much linking her to Elon Musk. Her public support for Musk’s free speech campaign however, may have something to do with it.

The Guardian reports that Yaccarino interviewed Musk in Miami last month. In the interview, she says: “If freedom of speech, as Musk says, is the bedrock of this country, I’m not sure there’s anyone in this room who could disagree with that.”
